How can we Help?
First of all our physiotherapists perform a comprehensive vestibular assessment to determine the source of your symptoms. This includes assessing your balance, eye movements, positional testing, and head movement tolerance. This first step allow us to accurately diagnose conditions such as BPPV, vestibular hypofunction, motion sensitivity, and other causes of dizziness or unsteadiness. To perform the testing we use our state of the art Vesticam Goggles which help us accurately diagnose your condition.
BPPV is one of the most common causes of vertigo and occurs when small crystals within the inner ear move into areas where they disrupt normal balance signals. When BPPV is diagnosed, treatment involves specific repositioning manoeuvres designed to guide these crystals back to their correct position. These evidence-based techniques are highly effective and often provide rapid symptom relief.
For patients experiencing ongoing dizziness, balance problems, or vestibular dysfunction, we provide tailored vestibular rehabilitation programs. These exercise-based treatments are designed to retrain the brain and inner ear to work together more effectively. Rehabilitation may include head motion sensitivity retraining, gaze stabilisation exercises, and progressive balance training to improve stability, confidence, and movement tolerance.
Education is a key component of our approach. We will help you understand your diagnosis, what may be triggering your symptoms, and provide you with practical strategies to help you manage dizziness and enable you safely return to daily activities, work, exercise, and sport.
If you are looking for experienced vestibular physiotherapists in Bondi Junction who specialise in dizziness and vertigo treatment, the team at JW Physical Health is here to support your recovery and help you get back to your goals.
Similar Conditions to Vertigo That Respond Well to Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapies
There are a number of other conditions that can cause vertigo and subsequent dizziness, light headedness, and disequilibrium. These will typically respond well to Vestibular Rehabilitation. Some examples are:
- Meniere’s Disease: a rare inner ear disorder that affects your sense of balance and hearing. It can make you feel as if the world is spinning around you when you’re standing still (vertigo). It can cause ringing in your ears (tinnitus) and difficulty hearing.
- Labyrinthitis & Vestibular Neuritis: disorders that result in inflammation of the inner ear and the nerve connecting the inner ear to the brain. The most common causes of vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis are viral infections. These infections normally cause intense spinning for 1-3 days followed by a secondary dizziness, head motion sensitivity and balance loss.
- Mal-de-débarquement Syndrome (MDDS): a condition that can occur after a sustained movement event, such as disembarking a cruise or aircraft flight. The condition presents as an inappropriate feeling of persistent rocking, swaying, or bobbing that you experiences when on stationary land and not moving physically.
- Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD): Triggered by inner ear issues, anxiety, or migraines, it causes increased dizziness when standing, moving, or in visually complex environments. Treatment involves vestibular rehabilitation (VRT).
- Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) dizziness: is a common, often debilitating, lingering symptom that can last for months, involving sensations of spinning (vertigo), light-headedness, or instability It is generally causes by damage to the brain’s nerve cells or inner ear disruptions, resulting in a miscommunication between the eyes and the brain.
Depending on your diagnosis, our treatment programs may also involve graded exercise specifically designed to reduce vertigo and dizziness, gaze instability and/or imbalance and falls through compensation. Those will help you to train your brain again on how to use all your senses to maintain your balance. When practiced regularly these exercises can drastically improve your condition.
