Are you looking to fix up your early extension in golf swing?
Early extensions lead to a number of swing faults and issues that negatively affect your performance on the golf course.
When a golfer early extends, it causes the hips to move closer to the ball during the downswing. This causes the spine to straighten too soon, leading to a loss of posture and balance.
The result of an Early Extension? Expect problems such as:
- Inconsistent ball striking
- Loss of power and distance
- Decreased accuracy
- Increased risk of injury
- Poor ball flight patterns
By working to correct early extension through exercises and drills, you can improve your swing mechanics, consistency, and performance on the course.
Follow the exercises below to help address early extension by strengthening your core stability, pelvic tilt, hip mobility, and thoracic spine mobility. These exercises aim to improve your ability to maintain good posture and spinal angle during the golf swing.
Remember our goal here: to help improve the mechanics of how you swing and prevent pain or injury from golfing (particularly your swing).
The key features we tend to see on testing from people who exhibit extension are a tight lumbar (lower) spine, tight hamstrings, and difficulty to maintain an upright posture during dynamic movements such as a squat.
So what we’ve included here are three key exercises to address those three problem areas. If you integrate these into your training and mobility regiment, we can almost guarantee you start to notice a difference on the field.
Give it a go! Let us know what you think!
