Before we talk about neck pain relief, let’s see where neck pain can come from.
If you are experiencing neck stiffness, most likely your upper traps and back are tight and this leads to pain, headaches and discomfort which gets more irritable day by day. This makes it hard to concentrate on your work, causing irritation to loud noise, bright lights, smells and even your partner or kids.
To alleviate these symptoms and find some quick neck pain relief, it’s important to know which are the common mistakes that people make when working from home.
Here are 3 of the most common, that create neck and shoulder stiffness when we are sitting for too long.
Mistake 1
Try to stand up every 30 minutes.
You can set an alarm on your phone or computer telling you to stand up, get a glass of water, move around and do some exercise, in order to break up that sitting period.
Mistake 2
Secondly, you can set your workstation up as follows.
The monitor should be at eye level, an attachable keyboard and mouse are also useful so that the keyboard is not up too high.
Mistake 3
Lastly, for phone calls a head set or using the speaker function are helpful so that you are not leaning the phone onto your ear and straining your neck.
This is a good time to stand up and walk around while you are on these calls, to break up this sitting.
Summary
When my patients implement these changes, they see significant improvements in their acute symptoms and when implementing them long-term, these strategies prevent recurring tightness and discomfort in their neck and shoulders.
